Third Coast Trombone Retreat

audition eligibility requirements: 

Age Requirements: (as of August 14, 2017)

        Participants: Must be age 18 or older as of August 14, 2017 ( no age limit)        

        Auditors: All ages welcome

*High school students are eligible to apply as Participants after fitting within age requirements.

*Auditors do not need to submit an application or audition recording.  Simply register prior to the day(s) you plan to audit by contacting  The daily cost for auditors will be $35/day or $25/day for 3 or more days.  

Live Audition: You may request a live audition at  Live auditions won't be available for everyone and most likely will be for people in the NYC and Pittsburgh areas (but it never hurts to ask).  See repertoire requirements below.

Recorded Audition: See repertoire and recording requirements below.

repertoire requirements:

-Participants: One solo movement or two contrasting etudes of applicant's choice as well as TWO of the 3 excerpts below according to your instrument type.  Copies of excerpts can be found on and

Mozart: Requiem - Tuba Mirum, mm 1-18 

Berlioz: Hungarian March (2nd trombone part) - 6 mm before #4 to 3 mm after #5

Ravel: Bolero - Two measures after #10 to #11

Bass (please select 2):

Hadyn: Creation #26 

Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 - mm. 595-Letter N

Wagner: Das Rheingold - Entry of the Gods - last 15 measures


Recording requirements: Edits cannot be made within tracks. In order to preserve anonymity, please do not speak on tracks.   Piano accompaniment is optional but not required.  Recording may be submitted via mp3 to  



Applications/recordings received after the June 1st deadline will be accepted but evaluated on a rolling basis according to space available. Notification of admission status will be sent June 20. After acceptance, a confirmation deposit of $100 will be due July 1st. Students receiving scholarships will be refunded this fee after scholarship is awarded.
